A name that will no doubt be unknown to many, Dorothy Ashby was undoubtedly the leading jazz harpist of her time. That she would go on to appear on albums and recordings by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Bobbi Humphrey, Minnie Riperton and Stanley Turrentine are proof that she was highly regarded by her contemporaries. Her own solo career is also sadly overlooked. This particular album, originally released on the Argo label in 1961, is as stunning a jazz album as you will hear from anyone, period. Its is the type of album that will have you scrambling to locate the rest of her catalogue, and you wont be disappointed with what you find. A masterpiece waiting to be rediscovered.
